Just to know Kindle 2 is the great ebook reading device

I'm an avid book reader and love to keep up on the latest gadgets and gizmos. I never knew the Kindle existed until I saw it on the Today Show last week. It peeked my curiousity since I love to read so much. After reading the reviews and pondering the price all day, I took the plunge. I'm SO happy I did! I ordered a light and case for it and had it shipped together with an original receive date of March 9th. Ugh. Well, I got it much sooner than that, obviously. I couldn't wait to get started. The battery was almost fully charged upon receipt so I turned it on and I was in business. It was so user friendly I didn't even need the instructions. I downloaded Twilight and have been entranced ever since. I haven't gone anyplace without it, and I think we'll be inseparable forever. I can't wait to show it off. I broke my thumb in a motorcycle accident a few years ago and it's uncomfortable for me to hold a book opened for any length of time. With my Kindle, no problem. Reading in bed is much more enjoyable too, no more adjusting the booklight every time I go to the next page. At first I thought I would for sure want a backlit screen, but after using it, I don't think that would work. This thing is so easy on the eyes, I like it better than an actual book. If you have ANY doubts about this ingenious gadget, I'm telling you, just do it! You won't be sorry!

The New Kindle 2 is a Big Improvement!

I just ripped through the pretty packaging and I love my new Kindle 2! (I'm a late 30's book lover. I read lots of fiction and non-fiction, and type in notes for my book club.)

It's much thinner (and evenly flat as opposed to wedge shaped like the Kindle 1).

The cover (sold separately) is a vastly better design with clips that hold the Kindle firmly with no straps or elastic. Real leather.

The font size options include a slightly smaller font that before--looks great.

The screen has a higher degree of clarity than the Kindle 1.

Navigation is much easier with the 5-way button.

The only negative: I miss having a dedicated button to deactivate the wireess, but the overall device has improved so much that I will get over the loss quickly.

My first impression with Kindle 2

I absolutely love this Kindle 2! It's sleek, stylish looking, and does everything I want it do quickly! I had read that the internet browser was really slow, but the new Kindle has a faster processor and improved modem, so it is actually pretty fast. Of course, not to compare with DSL on a computer but it does the job.
As for reading, the text is super sharp and the images are much improved with K2 have 16 shades of gray for better resolution.
The new text to speech feature is pretty good. The male voice is better than the female voice but of course, it pales in comparison to audio books read by professionls. Still it's nice to have the news being read to me while I am typing this review. I can see it being nice for commuting in your car to work or on trips. Might keep the kids quiet while on that trip to grandma's house. The pages turn automatically as the voice is reading so you can follow along if you choose. With six font sizes, even the visually impaired could benefit from this feature.
Would I recommend this product? You bet!

I was on the fence for months before I finally decided to order my Kindle 2. I had been reading such mixed reviews about the device and about Amazon's customer service that I simply could not decide about the purchase. This review is for all of those people, like me, that cannot decide if they need a Kindle 2 for themselves. Well, struggle with the decision no more and ORDER IT! I am so happy with my Kindle 2 and I look forward to reading it every single day. All of the problems that I was worried about are not problems at all. Downloading books is easy, the screen is NOT too dark, the font size is adjustable and the Kindle customer service support is terrific. I had a problem with my Kindle 2 and I was instantly connected with the most helpful representative. I did not have to wait on hold and the problem was solved in no time. I have made the highest recommendations of the Kindle 2 to my friends and family and will continue to do so in the future. I can say with absolute confidence, if you order your own Kindle 2 you will not be disappointed!!!

I really enjoy taking the Kindle to appointments where I have to wait and on vacation.
